Where to buy small Abit Kt7 mobo fan?

Post by EvilHorace »

I just happened to look at my mobo as I'm getting more ram and wasn't sure if I had an extra slot when I noticed that there's a very small 1.5"x1.5" fan attached to a part on the mobo that's turning very slowly thus has to be NG, even though I'm not (yet) having any problems. I'm fairly sure that radio shack doesn't sell anything like that so might anyone here know of other sources?

It's just to the cpu side of the ram slots where it says VIA KT133A Northbrdge (add fan kit):

That's your chipset fan. Many do go out on mobo's and especialy ones like the ak31 I have. Mine didn't last long at all.

I just replaced mine with an old 486 fan. It's too large to fit in all 4 holes so I just screwed it to one and it's still secure enough. I also have to have it at an angle so it fits, hehe.

So I'd just use any old thin fan you have that will fit. Isn't yours making noise? When mine went out it's make a loud scrapping noise.

Also the fan usually isn't needed all that much anyway as long as it has a small heatsink there.

Honstly, I sugest this:

U can get it Here.

This is what I use. You dont have to worry about it Dieing, making noise, or cleaning the fan blades. :)

But what blade sugested works also.

Actually, Radio Shark does have a suitable small fan, but it's crap too. I had one last a week.

My northbridge fan on my GA 7DXR died recently. I did the same thing blade did, except I bought a 40mm fan from Radio Shack to replace it. It fit perfect. The only problem, is the Radio Shack sleeve bearing fan creates a high amount of noise. I think I may try to find a quieter 40mm fan to replace it. Mainly because there are no pins on my motherboard around my Northbridge, and I don't really want to use the CoolerOne cooler, which I was told with a hybrid of the Blue Orb) and have it stuck on there using the pad below it.

Mine, before it died, created very annoying high pitched sounds. I would and maybe will use passive cooling.

Thanks guys. I'm kinda liking the thing that nexus_7 posted as it's one less fan to make noise in there. The fan's not making any noise at all but it's barely spinning, I can almost read the writing on it as it's spinning but there's other fans in there blowing so heat hasn't been a problem.

Got the extra large heatsink installed, nice :)

Now for some custom lighting from that place (linked above by nexus_7) as I also just added my clear plexiglass side cover for easy access, visability (yet another thread here if interested in my new cause.)
