what can cause xp to crash
okay since i recently downloaded seti spy to see more details about the WU i am doing it has been crashing lately. This frustrates me. Since i have always had my system overclocked to 1.25ghz but nuthing seem to make it crash before it ran fine without an error or blue screen on Win2k. Is it possible for program make xp crash. This all happens when i am way from computer. Not when i am actually on the computer.
2 things to try are clocking the system back down to default and disabling power saving features in Power Options in the Control Panel. And it is possible for programs to crash XP. It's not a bad idea to turn off some of those background and startup applications. To stop programs from starting up upon bootup go to Start->Run and type msconfig, and then go to startup.

many things can crash XP, just like W2K and NT. but thousands more can crash Win9x

Do you have a screen saver enabled? If so you might try disabling it. Also I always kill each and every power saving option. In years past they caused occasional problems on DESKtops ( I expect them to cause problems on Notebooks )...
And does SETI have a support page which might give clues?
