XP333, Cmedia-sound problem

Post by d_b »

On XP333 I use the on board sound with that addon card thingy.(technical, huh?) The problem I am having is:
a) sound only comes from the front speakers in games.
b) sound only comes from the front speakers when using winamp, musicmatch, etc.
c) I get 4 channel sound when using windows media player. That I can live with. The 2 channel issue in games really sucks. I would really like to put my Klipsh 4.1's to use.

The speakers are hooked up right and the 4 channel worked until yesterday. I haven't fiddled with a thing. How do I get my rears back?

Thanks

dan

Go to http://www.asus.com find the A7V266 drivers and grab the latest Cmedia drivers from there. You'll have to make sure all the "old" drivers and mixer are uninstalled first. The C-media drivers from Asus have a "Multi Speaker" button on the mixer. I am using it on an XP333-R Rev 2.0 board and it works great. Sounds better that the Iwill supplied drivers. :)

I'll try it, thanks :) I'm running windows XP, what OS are you using?

Edit-Does the same thing with these drivers. I'm begining to think it's an WinXP thing. Bad mojo.

I'm still a Win98SE user.I think XP will keep replacing the files when you remove them. There should be an uninstall for the Cmedia in the Add/Remove Programs. I might setup dual boot with XP later tonight.

I did the uninstall and you were right, XP kept replacing them, or trying to. I tried the drivers from Iwill and followed your suggestion but neither worked. I unistalled the drievrs again, rebooted and let xp connect to the internet and find the drivers. Now they work :) I don't no where winders found them or the version but what the hell as long as they work.

thanks for the help Fool :D

I'm kind havin' the same problem d_b.. I did get winamp to play the rear channel by messing with some settings in it... I've got my headphones on the front channel and my speakers on the rear... Just turn the speakers off when i don't want them on... I think i'm just gonna slap my SB Live! X-Gamer back in cause i'm just about to order a set of those Logitech Z560's :D

Fvckin' XP i uninstall the C-media drivers reboot it jsut takes control connects to the net and updates the C-media drivers without asking and now my sound don't even work!! Bastards i tell ya...

Cool, I might stick my x gamer in tomorrow. Let me know how those Z560's sound. The one thing I don't like about Klipshs' is there isn't enough mid range. Not a lot of drive to them. High and lows are great but boomy bass doesn't impress me much. I like my speakers to drive the sound through me. :D
