help on 486 computer

okay when i click any application it opens it microsoft word for some reason how do i fix this to stop using microsoft in order to run applications

It's somewhere in file associations depending what os you are using. Try clicking above on I think file or tools when the app is open and look for file associations. Then point it to the .exe you want to open it.

wvjohn i tried that but remember that every exe in windows 95 in my 486 computer opens it using microsoft word

when i clikc on add/remove programs it opens it with microsoft word.

i am running scandisk right now it seems it found some bad clusters

anyone see flying penguin ask him how do you solve this ??? thx

i could always format but then again i do not have cd for drivers for sound card nor the video card

There is a virus (can't remember the name) that associates all .exe files with Word or Excel. Usually its a time consuming manual fix. If you don't need anything on that computer, it might be easier to just reload Windows. Check http://www.sarc.com. Sorry, I don't have much time right now to look further into it.

i would format but i do not know where to get the drivers for video card its an old one and the sound card too first time in 7 years it gave me any problems

That does sound like a virus. Do you have a virus scanner and if so get the most recent updates and do a full scan.

Assuming you don't have a virus, you can just re-install Windows (a refresh, not a clean install) and it should restore all the default file associations.
