@Home capped our U/L speed 3 years ago, to 128k. I sort of figured they might bump it as the slowest DSL offering still has 384k U/L but nooooo.
ATTBI has been about as good as @Home here in northern CA. I can still get a sustained 500KB download from Microsoft half the time. Their support is a bit worse: I spent 8-10 hours last week trying to get a Linksys Cable Modem in, most of that with ATTBI techs.. 4 techs, four answers / URL's to go to / etc. None of it worked. Finally took the unit back and got an RCA. Yesterday a tech from ATTBI followed up on a complaint I filed about the poor support. Turns out ATTBI took over an old Costco building about 4 miles from my house :+
She had to work with me for about 2.5 hours to get the RCA up: had to manually edit everything about my setup, even after I had accessed the URL they required and logged in. but she was good, professional ....and I have two numbers for techs in that building now
IF Comcast actually takes over out here I'm probably going to go satellite. The articles I have read indicate Comcast is blocking access to newsgroups it does not think we should see, is blocking VPN ports, is locking users down to T1 speeds, etc. Hopefully that is a year or two away.
