okay, after reading wayyy too many reviews, and looking through the forums on photo.net

i m probably gonna pick up an Epson Photo 780. That, or an 880 if i can find one...

personally, i'd prefer the 880 cuz the ink is so much cheaper, but if i buy it i'll feel like a human buttock cuz i could've bought it last year for 60 cdn after rebate...thats like, 35 US

now i m probably gonna have to pay 140 cdn, or 80 US :(

My Epson 800 clogged up on me. I don't print a lot of things. I got a HP 960c and it was definitly a step up in quality from the Epson and the heads get replaced with each cartridge so that takes care of the head clog/printer ruined problem for me.

Check out Tom's roundup. The cost per page section is VERY informative. He totals up how much printing will cost you over the course of time.

I used to think canon was pure crap, but apparantly they have finally started releasing decent products.

HA!! Yeah that was my thinkin too.

The BJC6100 has 6 colours too. Prints marvelous photos (when it works that is).

BUT:

I have not used it much (about 800 pages)
And still it suddenly spitted out a tooth weel!! (yes litterally)
It often messes up the colours/black get fainted, so i have to do a nossle cleaning wich sucks a lot of ink. Last time (2 weeks ago) i had to do it and half of my new black ink tank went down the drain before it got ok. And this is only my second ink (black) tank.

If i use the Photo head, it has now started to mess up so that the tree colours in the photo cartridge is staggered to the left (and yes i have tried to readjust it according to the manual).
This Photo head costed $50 and u should be able to change ink cartridges in it 5 times before u need a new head. I havent changed them ONCE.

At work we also have a BJC6100, and that one too is gettin flaky.

Also, Canon has a rep for bad paper feed. Wich is correct. After a while it seems they start to get trouble with that too.

In short words: I use a lot more ink/paper/time to get it to work, than i actually use it. wich tripples my costs. Screw u Canon.

Oh, and its noisy as hell. And when u turn it on it goes: brrr... wweeeeeeaaaaaweeeee...we.we.we.weeeee for a minute or so before it starts printing. And when it finishes printing, it still cant keep its mouth shut. WEEEEEWEWEWEWEWEEEEWWWEEEEE!!!! FOR AGES!!!! Before it FINALLY shuts up.
But when u turn it off.... guess what?? WEEEEEEEWEWEWEWEWEEEE!!!! :| :| :|

Dunno about the new ones, but i'm not goin to buy one of them and find out, though ive heard that they are not as loud as mine.

haha, i've been struggling with this new printer issue for too long eh :p

well, can't find any of the old Epson models anywhere, so I m thinking about picking up a Canon S500 (S800 is too expensive). Reviews @ big sites says that it has great photo quality, so we shall see. If not, I'll lug it back to Staples.

I can't bring myself to buy an HP for photo purposes, the samples I saw @ staples sucked too much
