MS Office 2K stopped working...

Post by RubberDuckie »

OK...
I am running XP with Office 2000.
When I run any Office Application after 15 seconds...it just closes.
Front Page, Word, Excel...

They have been working on this computer under this install for over 2 months now ...
Any suggestions?

Sounds like a virus. If you run a virus checker and nothing comes up, then you can do a repair installation. I've had to do this just last month for Excel.

Can't hurt to do a re-install and then select REPAIR instead of actually doing an install. Maybe something overwrote a DLL.

Im open to suggestions.
I click the icon...the program starts....5-10 seconds go by...and the program is gone.

Did you install any other Office products recently? I installed Visio XP the other day and it nuked my Office license.

Do a search on the MS Knowledgebase - I find these sort of problems are usually well documented: http://search.support.microsoft.com/

Try applying the latest msjet update and also the mdac update; quite often fixes goofy Office problems. Also are you patched to SR2?

Same thing happened to me back when I was using Win98SE... nothing I did fixed it. Good thing I just got XP, and well with a new OS install of course it worked again... hope it doesn't come to that for you...
