Need a little upgrading advice...

Post by MegaVectra »

Right now this is what I have, Dual PIII 900, 512 MB PC133, Geforce 2 GTS 32MB.

I am thinking of buying a Gainward Geforce 3 Ti200 128MB. Newegg has them for $182.

Should I just upgarde the whole system to a PIV 1.6?

Would I be CPU limited if I stayed with the daulie?

So my quetion is a PIV 1.6 + MB + 512 DDR + Case + Geforce 3 Ti200 for ~$600 OR just a Geforce 3 Ti200 for ~$190.....?

Running a P3-1000 with Visiontek Ti-200 here and getting good enough frames in Quake3 to run at 1024x768 without seeing it dip below 85 fps. Running CS and DOD at 1152x864.

I've got my card overclocked to just about the same speed as a standard GF3. Very happy with it.

I had a GTS 32 meg and went to a Gainward TI200 64 meg. The difference was amazing. I'd say get the vid card and if you still are not happy with the performance then you can do the rest of the upgrade.

I'm using all the default settings when you run the game's Auto Configure program.

Mohaa runs acceptably for single player at 1024x768 but I'm not real happy with multiplayer yet. Even at 800x600 framerate varies wildly between 35 and 93 fps at 800x600 which is VERY suspicious.

I suspect the network engine in the game is the major culprit. It is, after all, using an early build of the Quake3 engine at it's core and has several problems that Q3 had early on (erratic netplay performance and the classic dialup bug).

I played MOHAA at a LAN party a couple of weeks ago and the framerate was much smoother than it is online on my cable connection.

I think the game needs a bit more work before netplay is as robust as Q3 or especially Half-Life, and I also think there's room for performance tweaking once someone comes out with some definative video tweak guides.

Check out the visual and network performance tweaks I posted here: http://www.pcabusers.net/forums/showthr ... adid=16814

Got them from a fan site.

DEFINATELY helped. I can now maintain 65 fps at 1024x768 with hardly a dip.
