No i didn't come here to "hide" from your comments. I happen to like the 'o2 camaro and it's looks. Since it's the last year, i want one! Plain and simple. I don't want a race car or "bragging rights" per say. I just want real american v8 power since this is about the last of it until i decide to get a vette. If i decide to.

Reg That POS can't do no 12 stock the SS maybe but not likely since it only has 10 more horse than the Z28's do a search on google fastest stock time i just found was 13.94 for a 2002 Z28... 2002 Stang GT 14.44... It ain't much faster and its still a POS GM F-body. Chevy can put all the Vette engines they want to in those Camaro's but the point being it won't ever be as fast or handle like a Vette will... I did however find a lot of beefed up Camaro's 2001 and 2002's that were running 12's in the 1/4 but by no means were they stock... One prob with all these so called modern muscle cars they build now... The rear end gearing is way to damn high... They are built for the freeway cruising. put a set of 4.10 gears in one of those and they'd probably be a hell of a lot faster in the 1/4 with those top end motors they have... Then they might be capable of a 12 second 1/4 mile stock...
Even if Reg Kemet's #'s wer optomistic the difference between a 13.94 and a 14.44 in a qt. mile is big. So the point that the Chevy out performs teh Ford stands at least in the qt mile. As for build quality in my opinon neither one of them is top notch. They both tend to develope rattles and the interior falls apart pretty easily. The appeal of owning the last year of the Camaro is pretty high in my eyes having owned and loved 3 early model Camaros.

Yeah .5 sec is a big difference... When you look at the 2 cars side by side the Camaro has a lot bigger motor. 5.7L 346 cubic inches vs 4.6L 281 cubic inch ford... Crank that 4.6L up to 310 320 HP and the stang will run just as fast and maybe faster than the camaro will... equal gear ratio's on the rear ends and equal HP and torque and you have 2 cars which will produce nearly the same speed and time given that they weigh the same... Everyone slams the Mustangs cause there slow cause a Camaro z28/ss will beat them... Ya know i sure hope they can considering they have more HP and a bigger motor... Don't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. And then were talkin' about a GT lets throw the SVT Cobra into this equation

Alright...............
I've personally never understood the 'Ford vs Chevy' thing and yes, I've owned both and then some. Lets face it, both Ford AND Chevy have made several great cars and ALOT of junk too over the years, especially since '73. IMHO, NO newer stock Ford OR Chevy is very exciting UNLESS you're seriously modifying it or buying one of the costlier varieties like the faster version of the 'vette (model # escapes me now) or one of the big buck varieties of Mustang like Saleen or Cobra R ($70K ka-ching!).
Although I now own a highly modified Ford, I'd have no reason not to buy a modified Chevy (or OLD 60s-early 70's Chevy) either.
Much of the problem with todays cars is that you're usually limited to what you can legally do due to local emissions laws and testing. If you can get around that and can afford to throw some $$ at it, you can make almost anything (within reason) perform. I say "within reason" because some cars, like what we call "rice mobiles" are not what I'd consider to be a good choice for real performance compared to a V8 powered car, dollar per dollar.

dadx2mj - the problem is he doesnt care about racing! So .5 in a 1/4 really doesnt mean jack. The GT has PLENTY of power and with few modifications (Chip, filter, gears) you can definately get the power of the Z. Not only that, you get a car that looks better (personal thoughts, i hate the z28 styling and that ugly front end) and a better built car (also much better stock handler).
or....
Save up for a vette.....those cars are just down right fun.

why don't you take that 50,000 you are going to spend on a vette, buy a mustang for 24,000, and put 5,000 in the mustang. It'll be faster than that over priced vette. Then you can take the money you saved and tape it to the hood of the mustang if you still want a $50,000 car

Vettes only cost around 35-38k. For 48k you can get a Z06 Vette with 405HP that is the fastest and best handling vette ever produced. a 0-60 in the 4.6-4.8 range and a 12.xx 1/4 bone stock.
My cowork has owned 2 of them. He had a 2000 w/ 385 hp..and he just got a 2002 w/ 405 hp...I've had the absolute pleasure of driving both...and all i can say is WOW. Those cars freakin rule. Plus the interior (while tight) is just plush with leather and a heads up display in the driverside windshield. The BOSE sound system is out of this world. It's probably one of the best stock systems ive ever heard. It was sepecially designed for the Z06. It's LOUD. All around it's a killer car.

I beg to differ, the 02's definitely have the ability to pull a 12.9x stock, just check out http://www.camaroz28.com/messagebd/index.html and see for yourself, Im pretty sure the 6 speeds come outta the box with 3.42's in the rear. And as for the people sayng the car will fall apart on you, BS, My bird is a 95, and is in great shape, i have no complaints on the build quality.

Reg - Provide some proven timeslips, or an article stating the 01 or 01 Z will do a sub 13.xx 1/4. NOT some hearsay from a messageboard. I'm not saying it's impossible, because alot of cars come out of the factory with much better hp than the same exact car sitting next to it. I just like to see proof
