Comp won't read keyboard at boot

Post by tunis5000 »

Not my comp, guy at work... I looked at it and when it boots it says keyboard error, trying to get into the BIOS is impossible, couple seconds later it just says boot disk error or something and that's it, can't do squat. First I thought it was just his HD but since it won't read the keyboard I told him his motherboard is probably FUBAR and to take it to where he bought it cuz it's still under warranty.

Just reaching out there to see if anyone has any other ideas but I'm pretty certain it's a major hardware malfunction...

Yes, try another keyboard. The keyboard electronics and the hard drive controller have nothing to do with each other, so there's no reason to say the mobo's fubared yet.

Is it a USB keyboard? Could be his CMOS got reset (maybe weak battery) and it won't recognize the USB keyboard until you turn on legacy USB support in BIOS. That might also explain why it doesn't see the hard drive.

Reaching here, but you need to test one thing at a time. Start with trying another keyboard (make sure it's a PS/2 keyboard).

Try resetting the BIOS. But I'm running out of ideas.
