Somthing screwed up with IDE

Theres somthing messed up about this- I Have An AMD duron 1ghz. The hard drive doesnt start spinning when the ide cable is in, when i take it out the hard drive (Sounds Like) its booting. Also CD-rom drives wont open unless i unplug the cable. Can you help me out? Oh and i have a gigabyte motherboard.

You try another ide cable?

Also double check all connections and be sure any hard drives and cdroms/cdrw/dvd drive are all jumpered right and assigned properly in the bios.

I'd hope it's either a bad cable or some jumpers are not set right. Otherwise it could the the motherboard.

Are you sure it is in the right way? Some cables are not keyed, and it is easy to plug it in backwards.

i had a new gigabyte mobo, and ya know what it did? it fryed my power led. peice of junk.
