I still can't tell the difference between a WAV file and a 320kb MP3. Anyway, this guy explains the differences:

At 320kb you're not going to hear much artifacting. Heck, I'm a (former) sound engineer, and 320 is fine (however I record everything at 320 WITHOUT VBR).
Anything below 320 and I start hearing annoying compression artifacts - especially with cymbals. It's the reason I can't stand to listen to rock stations on SiriusXM. They compress the crap out of those streams. It sounds worse than an AM radio to me.
