Forget Top Gun: Maverick—let’s settle Blue Thunder vs. Airwolf once and for all

Pretty interesting article, as there are lots of details on how stock commercial helicopters were modified to look and function like combat choppers for this show & movie back in the 80s, way before you could just rely on CGI to fake it.

I was never much of a fan of Airwolf, but I love Blue Thunder. Still take it out and watch it once in a while. What always made the movie more believable IMO is that Roy Scheider actually flew the real chopper during filming of some scenes. They made a big deal about that when the film was released. So fewer fake closeups of the actor pretending to fly.
