Out company just went through this last week. Globally, the company let go 180 in the IT/Telecom departments. Farmed out to another company, probably in India.

It is really crazy the way the are exploiting the visa rules. As originally written, I think they were limited to jobs for which american workers could not be found because of skill sets, not because they wanted more than $8/hr. I remember how they were associated with migrant worker so that farmers/orchards would have people to hand pick crops. I have seen a couple of articles explaining how the Indian companies act as "temp employment agencies", recruit anyone who has "some" tech background, lend them the $$ to come here, take a significant cut of their paycheck for several years, etc. The workers are lined up to come here because we have paved roads and indoor plumbing. Literally. The last numbers I saw were that @50% of indians have no access to toilets, and use the great outdoors.
