We finally have our first official footage of Ridley Scott’s adaptation The Martian, and we get to meet the crew of Ares 3 for the first time. In it, Matt Damon’s Mark Watney is as hilariously profane as his character is in Andy Weir’s novel.
This isn’t a trailer for the movie: it’s an in-universe feature from the crew of Ares 3, the sort of promotional viral video we might expect from NASA to introduce the crew and mission to the general public. In it, Matt Damon introduces the rest of the cast: Michael Peña as pilot Rick Martinez, Jessica Chastain as Melissa Lewis, Sebastian Stan as Dr. Chris Beck, Aksel Hennie as Alex Vogel and Kate Mara as Beth Johanssen.
The entire video is a surprisingly funny one, with plenty of crew banter and swearing, which makes us all the more excited for the film. The novel is a light one, and it looks like the film will match its tone nicely.
