true...that is a good thing.EvilHorace wrote:The only good thing about the cold today is that with all the school closings, traffic won't be as bad as usual.

120 school closings listed on the local news here. i can't remember ever having a "cold day" growing up. there were snow days, but never ones for cold.

Just curious since I have never experienced your weather living here in Southern CA:
1. how to you guys get to work in this kind of weather?
2. Do most of you have a POS car to drive (if you do drive) during this bad weather?
3. What things are closed during this weather?
4. Your homes - anything special you have to attend to?

I drive. the cold by itself doesn't matter, but after it snows, the super cold makes salt ineffective and the roads turn into moon craters w/ ice and it's dangerous.

Not anymore. 4Runner for me w/ fulltime 4x4. Previous vehicles had snow tires, but w/ ice it doesn't matter much.

Schools, many city events, etc.

Frozen water pipes is very common with this cold, as many people do not properly pay attention to outside faucets, basements, etc. they leave for vacation and keep thermostat too low, then get a surprise when they get home
