External HDD that acts as a virtual CD

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Heard about this on This Week in Computer Hardware (TWICH) podcast last week. Basically it's an external HDD that can emulate any CD saved on it as an ISO and boot it as a virtual CD. It also works as a regular external hard drive and it has a read only switch on it to keep it from being tampered with by a virus infected system.

It's a beautiful thing, shame that not all computers come with ESATA ports.

Oh, I didn't notice that (only looked at the Guru3d link) because they mentioned that it was USB powered & didn't mention that it did USB data transfers. I will definitely be getting this when it's more available.

The fact that it's out of stock literally everywhere makes me think that there are either patent issues or that they stopped manufacturing it.
