California Patrol: Driver in deadly race crash will not face charges

Post by FlyingPenguin »

I agree with the person in the following quote. People who go to these things realize they're in some danger (and if they don't, they're idiots). Life is not without risk, and if you stand 10 feet from a speeding truck flying over sand dunes, you're taking your life in your own hands.

Of course that probably won't prevent some idiots from trying to sue someone anyway...
Keith Carty, who had a friend killed in the California crash, told CNN's HLN that races attract a certain type of person -- someone who wants to participate as much as watch an event.

"These are hard-core, off-road enthusiasts," he said about people who attend off-road races.

"It's not anybody's turn to baby-sit us. We're out there -- we understand the risk. Everybody that was there understood the risk -- the drivers, the spectators, everybody," said Carty.

Yep. That sums it up. The sections most people get killed at are the ones nobody monitors.

short of the driver being drunk or under the influence of drugs, i can't see how he should be charged with anything. if drivers at these events are held liable, i can't imagine any of them ever wanting to participate, since the crowd does what it wants. terrible tragedy, but i'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
