anyone current on monitors and selecting one? i'm looking for a larger (24" or so) display to do photo editing on...so i'd like something with good color reproduction, etc.
i'd like to keep it under $400, if possible.
24" monitors
I have a LG w2452T and a Samsung 2493HM. The Samsung is a little brighter than the LG. The one thing I dont care for in the LG is there isnt any height adjustment. Both are 5ms. I think both are out of production.
I suggest you go to a local store and view the monitors.

I would definitely compare some of them at the store first and you will want to compare a 22" to a 24". You may prefer the 22. I was in the same boat and went with the 22" because of the dot pitch.
Most 22" LCDs are 1680x1050 and have a dot pitch around .285mm. Most 24" LCDs are 1920x1200 and have a dot pitch around .270mm.
This means that despite the extra 2 inches of display area, everything is substantially smaller on the 24" compared to the 22.
That's why I ended up buying the 22". I want my desktop fonts to be a minimum size using Window's standard "Large" font setting.
Windows has never managed high res displays very well. Not sure about Win7, but Vista did just as lousy a job as WinXP (actually worse IMO). The DPI adjustment really doesn't work right in Vista.
That said I can highly recommend these two models. I have this 22" Dell 2208WFP: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... ku=2208WA3
and here's the 24" version, the model 2408WFP: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=320-6272
Both have stunning images and nice features like the ability to rotate into portrait mode and a 4 port USB hub.
Also here's a 10% off coupon (only good on electronics & computer accessories). Just enter it in the coupon box at checkout. Coupon expires 7/8: 22X6DLMFK6K92G

good point about the dot pitch...i don't want something hard to read, etc. i have a cheaper 22" asus now and it is decent for everything but more serious photoshop work. even then it's ok, but i want something a bit better for that. i'll keep an eye on the dell models and see if something pops up in the next few weeks. thanks!

FYI: This monster 28" LCD is selling for $299.99. I know someone who bought one who says he's loving it, and it's getting good reviews on Tiger Direct's site. It has a dot pitch of .309 which is easy on the eyes.
