I'm wondering if you can run a wireless network card and a hard wired network card at the same time in one computer. I normally use the wireless but I want to try running a dedicated server that is hard wired. Due to the location of the router and the computer, the lan cable runs across the carpet where you walk. My plan was to plug in the network cable only when I want to host a dedicated server. I tried it with both network cards enabled and the 2 computers on my network couldn't see each other.
Both computers are running Windows XP Professional with SP2.
Can you run wireless and wired at the same time?

You should have no issue doing this at all as I did a setup like this when I was waiting for my router to be replaced:
Modem to desktop PC via ethernet, desktop pc with ICS to switch, switch to desktop pc and laptop via ethernet, laptop to desktop pc via Wireless Ad-hoc
This wasn't the easiest thing to do, but it worked out for me, and in an unusual way in the least, it is likely to be a setting you have overlooked.

When all else fails, replace the user.
