Ram question

Post by RaT »

as mentioned in another thread i'm down to just needing a cpu and motherboard to complete a system i'm building.

one of our admins at work offered to pull out a 1gb stick of ddr2 ram (CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) and hand it over it to me.

now i'm also clueless when it comes to ram specs and compatability. but by filtering out a mb search on newegg, i noticed boards only with 184-pin slots are available. although it may seem obvious, will this ram fit in a 184-pin slot? :s mackme

if not, what kinda of "budget" boards out there can i use the ram with?

You can't use DDR2 if your mobo is DDR1.

Generally AMD is DDR. Intel is DDR2. Check your documentation, or lookup you board at Crucial.com and see what kind of memory it takes.
