ancient hardware challenge
ok, heres the deal. i have aquired and ibm thinkpad 560. p1 100 mhz with ext floppy and cd rom 48 mb ram win95. the challenge: the cd rom is a pcmcia portable drive bay with 24x cd rom installed. it reads cd on my newer thinkpad fine. but in the 560 it shows the icon, shows files goes through the motions of reading files and causes a gen protection fault every time file is accessed except on bmp files. it opens the bmp but it looks skewed, i think it must be doing the same with .exe's. note it doesnt do this on the new TP with same driver but win 98. so what can i do to fix it?

cant upgrade the cd rom dont work right. and all irqs seem to be fine. it only has a primary ide controller with one hdd. the pc card is listed and a secondard ide with only the cd on it. it seems like some data translation error or something. if i cant figure it out im giving it to my aunt to use as a type writer and keeping the drive bay for mine to copy cds.
