is this Q-tec thing getting out of hand?

Post by 123cool »

hi all, recently i just bought a q-tec 500w BIGFAN PSU, cause my old 350w PSU was failing fast everyday my voltages would drop. anyway ive been looking up on q-tecs and found that lots of people are saying avoid them at all costs because they will blow up your pc etc.

well so far im extremly happy with my q-tec the rails all stay solid at there correct posistion even when under load and ive been running my system with this PSU for a good number of weeks,

my spec

Athlon 2100+
512 of 2100 RAM
5200 FX graphics card
ASRock K7VT4 - 4x Mobo

just wondered if all these bad comments about q-tec are just blown up rumors or just made at a time when q-tec had made a few mistakes. anyone got a q-tec and can post there experience?

BTW after christmas im gonna upgrade my system to a 64 Bit and hopefully get a 6800 Ultra card in there i kno i posted a couple of weeks back saying i was gonna get a 5900 FX but ive decided to wait and do a full upgrade.

I don't have a PSU from that company and I probably won't get one until I read some reviews or forum threads about it that are quite positive.

Your current system wouldn't even stress a (quality) 300W PSU so no wonder the 500W can handle it. Even your future system won't really push it with one 6800 Ultra .... might be a different thing with SLI.
I would opt for a somewhat more known brand like Enermax or Antec unless you need/want a 120mm single bottomfan PSU (and there would be the Antec Neopower 480 to fit in).
Just ask yourself how they can build a 500W PSU for only a third of what the Antec Neopower 480 cost (or less than half of what other comparable 500W 120mm fan PSU cost) ....

Dang, why can't I find the rating of their powerrails on their webpage?
I found one review here (which also lists the amps per rail) and it ain't too thrilling > http://xtremeresources.com/modules.php? ... nt&id=2022
You could try some forums that target silent PCs, they often talk about 120mm PSUs, like http://forums.silentpcreview.com

You should replace it when you get the new system with the 6800 Ultra and get a more trusted brand PSU. Don't skimp on the PSU cost when you're willing to put down 400 quid for the videocard.

Hehe, and don't mix up Q-Tec and Q-Technologies, they're two different companies though you might already know it ;)

Chances are it still doesn't put out clean DC power. You really do get what you pay for with a power supply... unless you overpay :P

Go with Antec True Power - they are rock stable and clean. It's all I put in my personal rigs, and all I buy as replacement parts for clients.

I'm through messing around with marginal power supplies.
