Switching from nvidia to ati

Post by Koo Koo Mouse »

Yup, should be getting my 9800 pro tomorrow to replace my ti4200. Just wondering besides a format and reistall is there a good proceedure to remove the nivida drivers? I've search here and there and the only thing I was able to come up with is this: (a repley to a guy doing about the same thing)

just did this exact same thing a few days ago. All I did was booted into
safe mode. Uninstalled the drivers via the Add/Remove programs. Rebooted
into Safe Mode again.. At this point it wanted to reinstall the GeForce.
Once done, I didn't reboot. Instead, I went into the Device Manager and
remove the GeForce. Opened up Regedit. Deleted the following keys:
Hklm/Software/Nvidia and Hkcu/Software/Nvidia. Next, I did a search using
these parameters "nv*.*" (without quotes) BECAREFUL. ONLY REMOVE NVIDIA
FILES ONLY. IF IN DOUBT, CHECK FOR THE CORPORATION IN THE PROPERTIES. Then I
deleted all of the nv files in Windows/System, System32,
LastGoodConfiguration, and Backup directories. I turned off the computer,
yanked the GF3 and installed the 9800 Pro, and restarted normally. Cancel
the installation process. Run the Catalyst 3.7 install package from ATI's
website. Of course, if you don't have DX 9 installed, you should run that
before the driver installation.

Nvidia does make a driver removal tool. I made the switch from Nvidia to ATI a while back and used the tool. At first it seemed like it worked well but over the next few days I kept noticing more buggy-ness. The install was well over two years old so I bite the bullet and formated.

Only prob i have is with one game (tribes2) in OGL with AA turned on on the menu screens, everything else runs flawlessly
Gone for good. But never say never
