how do I setup one of my computers so that I can power it up accross the LAN?
Without looking at the board, Im not sure the Mobo, but I do know it is a NForce board.
I believe it has wake-on-LAN...Lets assume it does for a minute.
How would I go about setting it up so I can power it on remotely?

PowerOn Via LAN?

ALl you really have to do is go into the (I believe) Power management section of the BIOS and enable wake on lan.
Then, install some software on another PC that'll send the magic packet to yours.
I've used it before, but just to see what it was all about - it wasn't to tough to setup either. A good method I use to check and see if a NIC was WOL is to simply shut the PC off - if the NIC is WOL capable, the Connection and ACT lights still light up.
I bet FP knows of some good WOL software to send the magic packet

Found some software that will send the signal to the proper MAC address.
Fist mobo is a MSI K7N420 Pro.... This board has WOL ... but will that Power on LAN?
Im looking to power a computer which is off from accross the LAN.
Second Mobo Im looking into... I believe it has a feature in BOIS to power on via LAN...but I can not get eather to work.
Still thinking.

If it has Power on Lan, it'll be in the BIOS - probably under power management settings I believe. What's your problem with POL on the other board? What software are you using to try to POL with? Built in NIC/Onboard? If it's a seperate NIC, don't forget about the little WOL/POL cable that goes from the NIC to the MB - without it nothing will happen.
I don't think you'd need a cable with an onboard NIC, but I'm not sure - not even sure if most onboard NIC's has WOL/POL, but I'll assume so since they are cheap hehehe.

I thought POL and WOL were the same ? In older motherboards, you had to run a small 2 or 3 lead power cable from the nic to a connector on the motherboard.
They are sorta the same. With WOL, the OS goes into a suspend-to-disk state (like your laptops do) and get's unsuspended when the magic packet is received. With POL, the PC can be turned completely off and it'll boot up when a magic packet is received.

I cant even get it to WOL .... from Hibernate mode.
It is an onboard NIC therefore I do not have the cable your talking about. I know the one.
I am using "CC Get MAC Address" and "WakeOnLANGUI" ... no go with eather one.
The WakeOnLANGUI has a field for Port number...Not sure what to put in there but the CC Get MAC Address does not ... They both will WOL a computer.
I will have to go through the BIOS some more. Ill keep at it.
