2 RAID arrays in same system?

Post by VidmanII »

Would this be possible?

I have a DFI LAN Party NF2 Utra rev A......If I were to get an SATA RAID PCI RAID controller card, would I be able to run two SATA HDDs in a RAID array and still keep the existing RAID array funtional using the o/b IDE Hpt372N?

I know it sounds crazy but I'm curious as to whether or not it would work.

Interesting in that XP shows the HPT372N under SCSI devices in Device manager but in the BIOS, I have the normal boot sequence choices ( currently 1-SCSI, 2-CDROM, 3-floppy), but I also have a selection option directly above it ......"RAID or SCSI boot" which is currently set to "RAID".

That being the case, I think it may actually be possible. The next logical question would be whether XP is setup to handle more than one SCSI device.

The two RAID scenario being the extreme case, but it also leaves me wondering if you couldn't just use an SATA controller card ( say for one Raptor ) and still maintain the current RAID array. Obviously one would be designated bootable and the other for storage.

I'd love to try it, just to see how bad Windows would spazz !! :D

Anybody?

from what i understand you can run 2 array's in the same system. Not really any reason why you couldn't.

Indeed, run as many arrays and controllers as you'd like - I use 2 arrays most of the time when RAIDing anyway

Most large enterprise servers use multiple arrays.
