Removing dual boot loader with Windows XP and Server 2003

Post by matt719 »

I recently installed Windows Server 2003 on my second partition just to mess around with it. After finding out Windows XP works better, I started using my primary OS again, XP Home. Well, all is good and since I wasn't using Windows Server 2003 anymore, I formatted my secondary partition. It is gone, and I DID think to set XP Home as the primary Windows install BEFORE formatting, so all works. The only thing left is having to deal with the annoyance of having to hit enter, and even if i just set the loaded clock to like 2 seconds, it would still be a pain in the ass. I know how to edit the boot.ini, but how do i just remove the boot loader all together? Thanks.

I guess you don't want to remove the bootloader, you just want to get rid of the OS selection at the beginning, ne ?
If it has XP as your Default OS then it's easy.

- Control panel / System / Advanced / Startup and Recovery / unselect "display list of os for x sec"

That might not be a good idea when somehow Win2k3 server is set to default system, but that can be managed under the same tab.

if you boot into the winxp disc, you can go into the recovery console. there you can rewrite the master boot record. just type "fixmbr" and it'll reset it back to it was at the time windows xp was installed. it will re-write your mbr though, so don't be surprised when any changes you may have made to it that you wanted to keep are gone.

u have to edit your boot.ini file
right click my computer>properties>advanced>startup and recovery settings>edit
then erase the line you dont want popping up during boot and save! =)
