very weird

a computer i got here to fix. was working fine then it wouldnt boot. i ran fdisk and it had 4 non dos partitions. how the hell does that happen? it was running win 98 with fat 32 then suddenly it has 4 non-dos partitions? a virus? someones stupidity? partition 1 was 16 gb partition2 was 20 gb partition 3 was 151 mb and partition 4 was 8mb. partition 3 was set active. also note that this is a 20 gb hdd total. fdisk reported 184% usage. any idea's?

For whatever reason the drive's been corrupted. I doubt you can salvage the data on it but Norton Disk Doctor may be able to.

Otherwise, delete the partitions and reformat.

Be aware, however, that you might have bad sectors which may have caused the problem, in which case the drive should be RMA'd if it's still under warranty. I recommend you run the manufacturer's diagnostic utility on it.

Sounds like your partition table got corrupt.
