tuner Card Question

Post by dadx2mj »

Ok I have a Pinnacle PCTV tuner card. It came with software amazingly enough called PCTV . When it works it works great but the software seems buggy as can be. I am constantly having to uninstall/reinstall or run the "repair" option that comes up when I put the CD in (guess that option should have been a clue). One of two things happen when it messes up. Both are when I close the app, either I get an error message saying app has encountered a problem and has to close or worse the video portion freezes on screen while the sound continues to play. I am unable to get the frozen screen to disappear or sound to quit other than by hitting the reset button and booting the computer. Question is does anyone know of a fix or some other TV software I can use with this card that might work better. Systems specs are

Epox 8RDA+
XP1700
512 Crucial PC2100
TI 200 latest official ref drivers
Onboard sound and nic
Maxtor ata 133 hdd
XP Pro fully updated with directx 9

Any help would be greatly appreciated

There's a freeware TV app called AmCap. Do a search on Google and I'm sure you'll find it. very basic but reliable.

There's also PowerVCR whcih is an excellent viewer AND a Tivo-type recorder app, but it's not free.

In the Devices menu in Amcp, make sure you have your sound card selected.

You can download a free evaluation version of PowerVCR I think.

Thanks guys!!! FP you were right I selected my sound card under devices and now I have sound with AMCAP. I got the PowerVCR and have it running as well but I dont like that I have to resize the window every time I launch the app. need to spend a little more time with it I am probably missing something there. I also found the cause of the problem I was having with PCTV. Seems Norton's was deleting a registry entries that it should not have been.

It should start up the same size you last used it. Though with the trial it may not. The full version is the best I've used and you can resize the window any size you want, or use the 2 default sizes with one click. Windvr is good, but recording isn't good, recordings are always in slower motion.
