cpu temp - similar question asked 1000 times

Post by nooyawkah »

I know this has been asked several times, but I'll do it again. For my current system I first tried a Zalman 6000 and was getting temps in the high 40s C, (too high for my liking) no matter if I used an 80, 92 or 120mm fan. I wasn't thrilled with the Zalman anyway so I bought an SLK-800. I tried it with a 2050RPM Pabst fan and it is DEAD QUIET! However, the temps are around 44-47C. Am I being picky and should I be happy with the quiet? Are the temps acceptable as I don't game or overclock? Somehow I think I could do better, perhaps get into the 30's, without going the Delta route.

By the end of next week I'll have a 3900RPM adjustable Pabst as well as a 3250RPM Panaflo "high" (I have a 3-speed controller I can use with this one). I'll give them both a shot and compare notes.

What do you think?

Particulars:
Lian-li case w/ 5 fans
Athlon 2100+
MSI KT4V mobo
1GB PC2700 RAM
2 WD 80GB hdds
These are the instructions that came with my Thermalright SLK-800 cooler:
Assembly:
The assembly gestalltet itself just as simply as with the standard Slk-800. after the foil of the base plate was removed and the processor core with thermal compound moistened, leaves one the 6-Punkt-Halteklammer in the base noses to engage. Subsequently, the radiator box is aligned centrically on the base. By means of slotted bolt turners finally the catch side of the fixing clip down pressed to these on the base engages. A strammer contact pressure develops, whereby a good waermeaufnahme is ensured. Although the additionally existing PU Schaumpads provides for a safe seat on the processor, the PC should very carefully be transported and/or the radiators before transport be developed.

That's Cool..

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

That's a decent temp.. Sure, it's not the coolest. But if you're not OC'in there's nothin' to worry about. My CPU is at 41*C under full load and it's an XP1800 OC'd to 2000+ Speeds.. With stock cooling. But I also keep it cool in my room. So that may have something to do with it. But I have seen my temps climb to 44*C depending on the temp in my room.. So I don't think you've got anything to worry about.. eGo

Are you talking a loaded temp or idle temp? If those temps are under full load you are doing ok but if they are idle temps you are running pretty hot.

I haven't given it a full test yet. 46-47 is with maybe 2 apps running.

60? thats 140 Farenheit ambient case temp? If you out a tea kettle on top of a case that hot you could boil water :-)

I have the XP2100+ and the SLK-800 just like you. I chose the A tornado 80x32mm fan to mount on top of the heatsink and a vantec nexus fan speed controller. On the lowest setting, with all the other case fans down too, I get about 41c (idle temp) with the fan all the way up I get 33c (idle). This is the perfect option becuase you can barely hear the torndo at 2500RPM.

I switched the Pabst for a Panaflo High Speed. It's maybe only a tad noisier (still real quiet) and I got it down 3 or 4 degrees celsius.

34C load here... 28 or 29C idle overclocked to 2.2GHz w/ SK7 and a relatively quiet fan.

I usally boost to around 115 F on full load. Since I no longer use the wireless adapter, I am at around 80 F idle.

1.33 Ghz. :D I boosted the fsb to 140, but I guess it gets to unstable. I'm too lazy to get in and use the jumpers for my multiplyer. I plan on upgrading very soon anyways.
