Trouble with DivX files...
No matter what i've tried i can't play them. Installed every codec there is rebooted uninstalled installed deleted blah blah blah and they won't fucking play a divx file. I getall of the sound but the pic hangs on the first frame and that is all i see. I normally played divx with WMP 8 and updated to 9 on my last install off XP Pro. Anyone having probs with WMP 9 and divx files? I can't even play them on a DivX only player either they do the same thing. Really startin' to flame my ass too...

All I have installed is the original 3.1 Alpha and the 5.01 Pro version, and I have no problem playing anything.
You sure it's Divx? There's another similar format out now that requires a different codec (and WMP will not automatically download it). I forget the name of it now.
The problem may be your Media Player. WMP 8 & 9 include a heck of a lot of copy protection.
Try using a Divx player (I use the one that came with the Divx 5.01 Pro pack) or use WMP 6.4 (which comes with WinXP - it's just hidden). I use nothing but WMP 6.4: no code bloat, no lockups, no copy protection:

Another item you might need is ffdshow, I ran into some probs with divx/xvid and that fixed them, get the ffdshow-alpha from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow . Some newer divx also require the latest Divx 5.0.3 , they won't play with older versions.
Try this baby out..
it installs virtually every codec you'll ever need

I am also having a problem with DIVX movies. I have every codec that I know of installed, including the ones that are mentioned above, but I am still having problems loading a few movies. I was wondering, how can you tell which codec was used to encode a file that you did not encode yourself? Is there a program that will find that out?
Thanks,
Matt

Right click on the media file, left click on properties, then select "summary".
