anybody using this? got one for the wife (to replace her 7500AIW which she never used) so she could record her shows.. Pretty decent deal on the 5040 at amazon for ~$140 + subscription - be grateful for any quick hints - i've found the replay tv forums but don't feel like digging through them at the moment
TIA

no shit...we JUST got one like 5 days ago, set it up today...the thing is awesome (as far as all of it's capabilities), but the fam is still debating whether or not to keep it. 'Cause once the service goes, you just got a $120 recorder...f that.

I was looking forward to it - details about the demise of Sonic Blue are in this thread at AT

If the Japanes company had bought it outright, I was going to keep it b/c I figured they'd keep it up - my guess is that there were too many contingent liabilities - lifetime subscriptions/rebates/warranty stuff in the float - this way they can bid for the technology at the auction, change it to another name and market it without assuming any of sonic's liabilities to replay customers
oh well, guess I'll look for a deal on a TIVO
lots more info here too
