pc anywhere

I was following fps thread about broadband remote control
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem im having
I have a computer running win2k in a workplace and 2 ppl trying to access it from home via pc anywhere
Well it used to work fine over modems but we ve upgraded to adsl and i cannot figure out how to get pc anywhere to communicate over the internet
I have the win 2k machine going thru a adsl router and have a static ip address on the win2k machine
I was wondering do ineed to set up the router as a dhcp server and have the pc assign a ip addreess automatically

If someone could walk me thru what i need to do i would be most grateful

that computer needs a static ip but you must go into the router config and set that ip to the DMZ host. this is what its called on the linksys routers not sure about the others. What DMZ host does is open that ip address up to the outside world. Doing this makes that ip vulnerable to attacks and viruses so it is a MUST to run some sort of software firewall such as zone alarm or black ice. then in order to connect you'll just need to know the ip that the adsl modem has assigned to the router and the router will route all incomming to that open ip.

Either DMZ or just forward the ports needed specifically for PC Anywhere to that machine. http://www.practicallynetworked.com has a listing of the ports.

have you actually got port forwarding to work Busby. I've tried for hours with this Linksys BEFSR41 and can't get it to work for the life of me...

I know I got port forwarding to work on mine, same model. I know, because I accidentally forwarded port 53 to my server and then tried to figure out for 2 hours why I couldnt go to any websites, etc. heh

Port 53 is DNS for those of you who dont know.

SO ya, I know it worked for me

Yeah my D-link Di704P forwards ports. I have ports for my web, SSH, and FTP servers forwarded to my server. I have forwarded ports to my machine for gaming servers or whatnot.

busby you got a similar setup to mine i got
a7n8x deluxe
using 120 gb seagata sata drives
1.5 gb ram
gigabyte 9700 pro
a xp 2700
love it to bits
