Im having some strange internet problems lately.
It is almost like I lose my DNS every 5-10 minutes but it will come back.
I say the DNS because I can always hit a website with the IP but in the times of "black out" I can not with the domain name.
I just thought it was my internet ISP until I tried resetting my modem in these times and the problem is resolved. No one else in my neighborhood is having these problems.
It affects every computer on my network behind my modem.
I have tried several DNS servers and the problem still happens.
I have not tried connecting my computer directly to my cable modem yet to rule out the router.
I have a toshiba cable modem and a netgear RT314 if that helps
feel free to ask questions if I did not make my problem clear.
Thanks,
ever have a cable modem go bad?

I would think that if your modem is croaking it would be all or nothing. Not just oh I'll not let port 53 through but 80 is ok, the modem is a bridge. Although stranger things have happened.
You really aren't going to know until you hook that sucker directly up to a PC. From what you say I think the router sounds more suspect than anything.

I had a problem with the first cable modem I had, which if i remember correctly was a Toshiba. I think I heard somewhere that they aren't the best and have had a tendency to go bad. Are you leasing your modem from your provider, cause if so see if they can just come and replace it. I now have an RCA and I rarely have problems with it.

Well I own the modem so my cable provider will not fix the modem if that is the problem.
I dont mind buying a new modem ... but I would hate to buy one and it not be the problem.
I hooked the PC directly to the modem and this is what I got:
but I could not surf at all that way.
Shouldnt the DNS show up?
Im stumped.
