Smartmedia "card error"

Post by blade »

Now this one has me stumped. A few months ago after uploading pics via a usb reader I placed the smartmedia back in my camera. The camera gave me a "card error" message. I removed and reinserted the card and it worked fine again.

Now today I upload some pics, put the card back in my camera and get that "card error" message again. Try reinserting, formatting in windows, cleaning the contacts, etcc, still get that error message. So I use another card that works fine in the camera, upload the pics then place it back in the camera. Darn if I get that error message yet again.

I try more cards, they all work in the camera but as soon as I upload the pics via a usb adapter and place back in the camera, I get that error again. :; :mad WTF!!!

I try formatting it in the camera but the camera doesn't reckognize it as a valid card. A search on google turns up many others having the same problem with smartmedia with various cameras and have no clue how to fix it. Some have this even with new cards, so it is either a weird virus that no av can yet pick up, or is something to do with xp. Have tried it with 3 usb readers, same thing happens.

With that card error message that makes the cards I have totally useless till I can get this solved.

Any ideas?

did you by any chance try to edit any of the pics on the card itself?

i remember reading a while back that unpatched windows xp would mess up the card if the original files were altered directly on the card, it'd kill the card

Of course not, I am doing nothing differently than I have always done. I just upload the pics then remove the cards. I doubt anyone is that stupid. :p

Ed, You are missing the point. No matter how new of cards I use, once I upload the pics and place them back in my camera, they give my camera a "card error" message and are unusable.

I need to figure out what is causing this problem and stop it, and fix the cards.
