How to keep a card-reader from going to sleep?

I'm stumped. I have a Lead-Data USB multi-card reader. Damn thing goes to sleep after a while and then the only way to wake it up is to go to device manager and disable then enable it. It's annoying.

I've unchecked "Allow Windows to turn off this device..." in the properties for the USB Root Hub which is SUPPOSED to fix this problem, but it still goes to sleep.

Anyone have any ideas?

Lead-Data's website is worthless and tech support doesn't answer.

Failing that, can anyone recommend a multi card reader (all it needs to read is compact flash and smart media) that DOESN'T have this problem? Thanks.

That same thing happened a lot to one I used. I had to unplug the usb from my computer and plug it back in then it would install the drivers and work again. I just assumed it was because there are no updated drivers available for it.

It is annoying. I tried different usb ports, different cable, updated via drivers, etc.. No matter what, the problem kept happening.

Saw a usb reader at Target for $20 and I thought I'd try it. A driver cd comes with it but I never had to use them since xp picked it up and installed it just fine. So far no matter how long my system is on, it works just fine. It's made by GE but is just for smartmedia. They have compact flash ones too but not sure if they had multi ones or not.

*A related issue, if I leave my computer on overnight then my usb cordless mouse will not work. I have to reboot. So I keep a ps2 one connected. Tried diffeerent drivers, same thing

I thought that the "Allow Windows To Turn off this device" was a device specific setting, as in it's underneath the properties for the card reader and not for the USB Root Hub.....

I use that one at work ... now it is only a Compact Flash Reader...but it never goes to sleep.
I leave it pluged in 24-7

No BUSBY, that setting (at least on my system) is on the Root Hub only

hmmm didn't even know usb readers have a sleep mode... mine doesn't :/

Most simple readers (readers that only support one card) don't sleep. Mine is a fancy one that supports 3 different cards and shows up as 3 different drives, and yes the damn thing goes to sleep all the time and is annoying the piss out of me....

Anyone got a multi-card reader they can recommend?

mine supports 3 and it costed only around $20-25

it's currently using XP's default drivers and never goes to sleep
