Poll time: How much time do you give?

After initial confirmation of a deal, how much time do you give the other person to respond to seal it?
I just want it for personal reference.

my rule of thumb is 24 hrs. If I am buying or selling I always check heatware. I try to deal with people with at least 40 positives if I can - I learned my lesson the hard way on deals to good to be true

- i will deal with people with fewer heats if I am buying and it is a under $30 item - but i am always careful to feel it out a little bit

the general rule I use when selling is that the first full price offer via email wins - i post on multiple boards when selling and don't really have time to check all of them

if someone wants something, i usually try and close the deal that day - I got tired of the problems around money orders not arriving and just do paypal pretty much exclusively - they get a % off the credit card deals, but it's worth it to me for the lack of hassle -

i always try and ship the next day and always ship usps priority delivery confirmation even on a cheap item, just so I don't have to fool with the "i never got it " stuff

i check the tracking on the items and if the buyer hasn't acknowledged receipt, i email them

i should probably put in my next sale thread that items for which payment has not been received within 24 hrs will be relisted

i would wait up to a day !
but a newbe that i dont know 4 hours !
or if it someone i know is been around a while maybe 12 hours !

imho given weekends and RL obligations no decision as to the the validity of a deal is made until after 72 hours of no contact

though even that has proven not to be enough heh....had one fubared situation last month...nothing says fun like having to buy the same product twice because of poor communication

If you confirm the deal then it's done.
I think, you mean giving a greenlight to a receptive party - in which case a 72 hour
period would suffice provided the terms are made clear at the time of contact.
hell I dunno....72 sounds good.

Well, I think it should all be "sealed" within 24 hours. It's not like email isn't recieved unless the other person is sitting right there when you send it. I've only done 3 trades/buys so far, but I've done my best to be almost immediate with my responses and my intentions for payment. I don't plan on becoming a troll. So I try to keep good communication going between parties. But 24 hours is certainly enough time for "sealing" a deal in this day an age. eGo

It's all about managing expectations. When in the midst of a deal, courtesy dictates if an agreement can't be finalized, then the party holding out should state a time frame in which they will affirm the deal. If someone is PMing me back and forth, then suddenly disappears, and I have other traders interested, I will PM that person and let them know that I have others in line and if I don't hear back within 24 hours, I will assume the deal is off and go to the next in line.

yeah i agree, 24hr's should be the most that one gives the other party to respond...
and DEFINITELY agree that a warning should be fired off before handing the deal to a 3rd party

That kind of depends. The internet is ment to be fast. If I'm selling something and someone makes an offer on it and I accept, I give him a few hours to tell me that we're cool and he'll pay me. But if a few people make an offer on it I go with who will pay me the quickest.

I only accept paypal though. So I don't really care about heatware ratings or anything like that when selling. When I buy stuff I do though.

that's where i disagree, i don't think if say.. 3 people offers the same amount, the quickest person should get it..

i believe in first come first serve, in other words, the first of the 3 contacted me, i'll deal with them in that order and not by which of the 3 can pay me first (unless i'm asked to wait a ridiculous amount of time for the money)

what i'm trying to see is what happens with the following scenario:
if you are selling something,
you receive and offer that states a given party has the money and is willing to pay for your item,
you then send off a reply saying you'll agree to sell

how long do you wait for a response or a PayPal send before you move on to the next prospective party
