Ok, so I take it that you aren't interested in trying to make a deal.

I would but not straight up. Do you have a link? Can you offer anything additional in trade?

Sure, here are a couple of links! :D

A random webstore offering it for sale - The HP/Compaq site is failing to return the product specs for me, so I hope that this will suffice.

Linux on the 1700 series - All hardware is supported under 2.4 kernel.

An Epinion review.

The original harddrive failed three months ago. I called Compaq @ 5:30 PM, gave them my warranty number, and they promised to send a replacement. When I woke up the next morning at 10AM, the new drive was waiting for me! Their warranty support has been top notch. I believe that I still have 6 months left on the extended warranty, but the HP buyout killed the Compaq website, and I can't check the exact time remaining. If you're interested, I can make the call tomorrow to find out.

This laptop has been a trooper. I do all of my writing on it, and travel quite a bit, and it has never let me down. I watched quite a bit of divx while on the road, and it played without lagging. As I mentioned before, the battery carries over two hours of charge (I'd say 2.25).

How would you feel about keeping the CD burner and the monitor to even out the trade? I don't have much hardware left (I just traded my desktop for a new laptop, which is why I'd like to trade this laptop for a desktop), so I don't have much else I could throw in. Although, I'd be willing to burn off as much Divx as you like :)

Can I get a picture of the modded case?

DaMaN, I understand wanting to wait and see if someone else can offer a better laptop, and that's cool. I'd probably be doing the same thing if this was my thread.

But if you could, let me know what you think about the offer I made, and what chances I have. I'd like to pick up a new desktop fairly quickly, but if you're not interested I'll try elsewhere.

Thanks,
Johnny
