XP/ME dual boot network question?

Post by blackhawk »

I've decided to dual boot for the first time as some programs/hardware I wanted to keep weren't supported under XP but I have some basic questions now that its setup.

I have the ME os networked to my other home machine, which is ME only and want to know if I can network the XP one in as well. Right now its not showing up but if I run network wizard will it affect my ME network?

I tried to use the transfer settings feature but it gives me an error and wont open which is no big deal but is this normal?

If anyone can point me to a site that can answer a lot of basic questions for me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks to the regulars who always offer suggestions without attitude. :)

What you do in one OS shouldn't affect the other OS in the dual boot... Just setup the network in XP like it is on the ME side and you should be good to go... You might have trouble seeing the other computer cause of ME but you will have the connection and should be able to share the internet just fine. its something to do with XP not using netbeui.

Agree with Predator, might have to play around for XP to see WIN98 Plus....excuse me....ME, but it will work. Slight difference in how they utilize authentication between each other. XP really wants to use Active Directory. Take a gander at this site and see if it helps or at least points you in right direction.
