I'm doing 'spring' cleaning and ran into an old toy: the first Sony recordable mini-CD unit. )* Stupidly I failed to remove the last battery when it stopped buffering enough to let me jog with it. The AA battery had oozed out and covered about half of that cells area.
What chemical should I use to neutralize the traces still on the contacts?
No. Use plain water or water with a little vinegar. You're dealing with alkaline batteries, called so because the electrolyte (potassium hydroxide) is alkaline or basic, not an acid.
