but should you need a new modem... compgeeks has a pci 56k they're selling based on an intel chip or something for only $15 or so and it has XP support

It should work, no probs under Win2000, gets detected automatically and drivers are on CD and it looks like the same for XP.
According to M$ HCL:
Indicates that this product may not meet all of the Windows Logo Requirements for the logo program but has been deemed compatible with Windows by the team that developed the operating system and there is a driver available on the Windows Operating System CD.

I will have to look on the XP CD.
When I installed it did not load any drivers ... shows up as unknown device...but it does say "diamond superaexpress 56i"
I found it funny that it was unknown but it knew the name.
Ill look on the CD ... thanks DOC

Just try to manually add new hardware and select MODEM for the unknown device. Maybe you should select the "don't autodetect, let me select out of a list" option once the modem wizard starts in case the automatic slection doesn't work.

do what Doc said and use the generic modem drivers XP provides. Go to phone and modems in control panel, select modem tab, add button, check don't select my modem, choose standard modem, click next and let winders do it's thing. You will want to disable the diamond modem in system properties. Don't remove it or XP will find it whenever you boot up.

Hope this helps :)

If it's an ISA modem it's a hardware modem and requires no drivers, just an INF file with the init strings.

The INF file that comes with it should work fine.

Worse comes to worse you could setup the init string manually and just set it up as a Standard 56K modem.

This is the factory init string for that modem:
ATS7=60S30=0LM1&Q5\N3%C3&K3BN1X4

If you're gaming online using a dialup, this init string will be better:
AT&FS7=60S30=0LM1&Q5\N3%E0%C2&K3BN1X4W2

I have the same modem and it would not install with xp. Tried it on 4 different XP installs. Even tried a few other similar diamond drivers, but no go.

I ended up getting the intel ham modem. http://www.webuildpcs.com has it for 11.99. Works great with xp.
