Lately Win2K is becoming a little buggy and because of it, I'm glad that this thing still runs great using Win98SE also.
For some odd reason after being online in Win2K (at least that's my current opinion), I've noticed that the SS stops working altogether. I've got it selected to come on after 5 minutes but hours later it won't be working. I don't have this problem ever while using Win98SE.
I've even tryed selecting other SSs yet non will work when this happens (intermittantly) unless I reboot, then the SS works as it should.
By chance....has anyone else experienced this or know of a cure?

yes
the exact same thing happens to me. win2000 pro w/ sp2. the only way i get it to work again is to reboot. the screensaver will not come on...and the monitor will never go into sleep mode because of it.

I'm in Greenfield and work in Waukesha, not too far away from Brookfield.
I like Win2K and I think it performs better online and some other programs but it does seem to have a few quirks, at least on this PC when compared to Win98SE. Win98 still seems faster and more stable with the games I play (rarely lately) and some of these little problems like this are annoying too.

Win98
Yep, being that this PC dual boots, my solution to date is to stick with Win98SE. I'll admit that Win2K has some cool features but IMHO, Win98SE is far less buggy overall, like I have NO problems with it whatsoever.
Not only does Win2K do this SS malfunction but it's easier to crash in games and I've seen a few other quirky things with it as well. I wish they'd make a patch or something that'd fix some of these minor issues 'cause if they did I'd always use Win2K but as it now stands, Win98 has my vote for being a more stable/useable OS overall. I'm not trying to start another OS arguement here but that's my opinion at this present time after trying Win2K since last winter sometime.

Still nothing new?
I've been staying within Win98SE ever since this problems been occuring as it simply NEVER occurs in any OS other than Win2K BUT it's unfortunate as that's one of my major "beefs" with it, otherwise I like Win2K. Didn't Microsoft really finish (perfect) this OS as they've done previously before they now apparently released yet another one?

I dunno about SS but I use SHUT OFF MONITOR AFTER 20 MINUTES without any problems and that for quite some time.
Does this work for you instead of the SS ?
I don't use a SS cause when I'm AFK it's for a longer time and nobody would see the purdy SS ... so I have my monitor shut off cause I'm normally away for a longer period of time.

Hi Doc,
That would probably work (havent tryed) but the reason I use the SS feature is to keep my 17 yr old son off my PCs as I like my stuff working and he tends to destroy everything. He recently ruined my old P166 that I was letting him use so he's not allowed to use my stuff at all. The SS passwords (plus boot and bios passwords too
) effectively keep him from using my stuff.
