Heatsink Problems--Help!

Post by bassoprofundo »

Hey guys,

I have a possible favor to ask of a fellow trader. Would anyone happen to have any spare thermal tape that you might be willing to send me a piece of? Here's my sad story: The fan stopped working on the KT133 chipset on my Abit KT7 (starting making loud grinding noise). I've contacted Abit numerous times with no response up until now. Finally, I got a response saying to contact whomever sold me the board for a replacement. The place where I got the board says that I can send it back to them, and they'll test the board. If they say it's ok, I have to pay shipping both ways and a restocking fee. Obviously, this all sucks. I've got a spare heatsink/Fan combo that will fit the bill here, but I have no way to attach it other than thermal tape due to the way that the screw mounts are aligned. Right now, I have it attached with heatsink grease, but it's not too stable, and I'm afraid it'll slide off. I'd get some thermal tape myself, but the Radio Shack near me doesn't stock it, and I don't want to pay $4.00 plus UPS shipping for a stinking piece of tape. Could anyone help me out here? Maybe that piece that came with your heatsink or cpu that you're not using because you've got Artic Silver.. :) ? Please email me at bassoprofundo@hotmail.com. I'll be in your debt.

Thanks,

BASSO
