yeah, i understand the reasoning for it. they did specifically say "only two of our techs are trained and certified for this type of repair", but of course, they have to tell customers something. no big deal. i saw a few photos of the work required to be done and it looks like a pretty intricate thing...nothing i want them to be distracted from while doing my car.EvilHorace wrote:It's not that the techs are certified to do that but that every dealer has assigned only a few techs to do nothing but those valve spring recalls. It's because the job is complicated, time consuming and it's best that only a few people get that experience and do just those rather than try having everyone doing them. It'd be very hard to be doing those plus other customer work, waiters, etc. With engine work, you're best to stay on the job and work on that w/o interruptions so you won't forget something.
The shop still has other regular customer work too and has to be productive so the valve spring techs are doing nothing but those recalls while the other techs are taking all the other work and that also entails even more recalls, soon the brake master cyl seal recall (lots of cars).
When the valve spring recall started, our area auto auction had over 90 6 cyl cars (plus V8s, LS 460s) that had to be done before the letters went out to the customers.
oh, and the VSC warning came back after <20 miles of driving from the dealership, so back she goes on Monday. i hope they fix it up, as i typically don't drive it in winter and it's getting pretty cold for the tires i have on it now...if snow comes, it's instant death (summer performance tires). i have snows to swap on, but haven't been able to yet.
