Vista Basic does not require more than 1 gig of memory for a decent machine. I purchased 25 of these Presarios over a year ago and installed them at our local Girl Scout office. At that time they were shipped with 512 meg of ram. They were not quite as functional as they wanted. I boosted the memory to 1 gig. First machine I removed the 512 stick and added a 1 gig strip. Second machine I added the 512 stick from the first machine. And so on until almost all were 1 gig. The exception was the book keepers machine. I upped that to 2 gig so Quick Books would run OK. As these were put on a network, I removed and sold the dial up modems to recover the cost of the memory upgrades. The only other additions were AVG and Office 2007 Pro, after I removed the junk.
