Well here's another nice plug for NewEgg (sorry Greg).

I bought an ATI Radeon 9800XT two 1/2 months ago from them and the fan died. I returned it to NewEgg for RMA (NewEgg will RMA anything for a year irregardless of the manufacturer warranty and it's easier dealing with them than the manufacturer - takes 2 minutes to process an RMA online without ever talking to a human being).

Apparently availability on this card is a little low right now and they're out of stock so they offered me a full refund - and that's 2 1/2 months after the purchase (their policy like most stores is 30 days on refunds).

They just credited my Amex card for the full amount of the purchase: $439. This works out very well since I wouldn't mind buying a Radeon X800 instead now that they're just becoming available and it's a better card for not much more money. :)

This is my point. If Newegg sells me a dud of a monitor then it ought to be Newegg who makes it right, but that is curretly NOT their policy. They make you deal with the manufacturer. This is their 'new policy' and it ought to be different.

I know of a lot of companies with similar policies. I recently bought a Canon Elura 50 online and when I got it, it had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen and motor whine while taping. I thought this was unacceptable, but the company I bought it from (6ave.com) would do nothing for me. I tried to explain to them that if I had bought it at Best Buy, or the like, that they would exchange it for me, free of charge, but this company would not listen. It seems to be pretty standard for internet companies, I guess. They told me to deal with Canon directly, luckily Canon was willing to repair the camera for me, free of charge - since it is still under warranty. The 6ave company wanted to charge me return shipping as well as to ship the new item to me and also a 15% restocking fee...I told them where they could stick it. On the topic of Newegg, I've order a lot from them for awhile now and never had a problem...but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Amke sure you leave them a worthy review at like resellerrating.com or whatever the site is. That way others might be forewarned.

It's funny that you mention that. They actually include a piece of photocopied paper in there that asks for its buyers to do just that...I've never gotten that from a "reputable" company before. It stinks, because I always check resellerratings before buying - and this company has a good score. They actually are a retail store in NJ - go figure. At least they didn't call me "to verify my order" trying to sell me expensive upgrades and then refusing to ship when I refuse, claiming the item is out of stock...like some of the others do. The shipping was actually pretty quick - and only cost me .06 so I guess I can give them that - I just wish that they were more willing to ship me a new unit. Becuase now, when I get my camera back from Canon, I basically have a refurbished camera that should be new...and that makes me angry!
