xp
FYI:
I've run xp pro on a k62-400 and a p2-333,in both cases each had 256 megs ram.Ran surprising well ,although they were home built pc's with voodoo cards. One had a Voodoo3 and the other had a Ati Rage 128 for primary and V2.Played older games like U.T and Tac-Ops,Half-life, fine. Also installed it on a Compaq k6-2 500,with 256 megs ram.It had onboard vid, some old trident blade,8 meg if I'm not mistaken, via chipset??Anyway couldn't get Win98 to run well on it,no matter what, installed Winxp pro on a lark, and it ran much better and stable,so I added a voodoo2 card to it.Works good for email and surfing and old games Unreal ,Starcraft etc....Gave it to my mother-inlaw,now I can pass the time there for some old school gaming while the wife and mother-inlaw do their thing. There is still some life for those old pc's.You never know when they will come in handy.

UPDATE -
It installs okay, but with some issues:
1. I used the Stripped to the Bone version, and in device manager, there are 3 items that do not have drivers. I was able to get it down to only one, the CRT screen, even though xp installed a default monitor driver. The install time was ~ 1 hour.
2. I wiped the drive and installed a regular version of xp, and it had only 1 item that did not have a driver, the video, same with the Stripped to the Bone version. This one took ~ 1 hour and 45 minutes to install. :lol
3. I wiped the drive and installed win2k, and it's able to assign drivers to everything in device manager. WTF? It also installs in ~ 45 minutes.
In the process of installing win2k, I decided to update it using AutoPatcher for win2k. Left it updating while my wife and I watched a movie. Come back only to discover a blue screen. I rebooted, but the laptop does not detect the hard drive. So I pull the drive out and install it as a USB drive, and it's dead. So now I have to repeat the entire process again.
That sucks, but why would xp not properly detect the video, modem, and the crt? Only win2k does.
