When I was in HS, probably all of the 500 people in my graduating class tryed it at least once. Most people my age now also gave it up yrs ago as it got old or they "grew up".
Many think that they need to smoke pot for fun but for me, it made me completely anti-social as I could hardly carry on a descent conversation with anyone while stoned. People will also make up excuses why they think they NEED it, like it helps them cope with reality as otherwise their lives would just suck. That was my #1 reason when in HS as I hated my circumstances then (won't go into it here). In reality, while stoned ones problems in life don't really go away, they just get worse because not only are you not trying to solve them, you're then too stoned to even try or care.
The only possible legal reason for use of pot that I'm aware of is for treating nausea from Chemotherapy which is suppose to be pretty bad.

i've never tried anything...not even a regular cig. i drink occassionally, but that is all.
call me arrogant or whatever, but i feel that drugs are for weak people that need something to "escape" with...and those that try to justify the use of them are ignorant. there is absolutely no need or reason for them beyond temporary pleasure, and the long term effects negate that "benefit".
that might sound harsh, but you asked for opinions.

I never touch the stuff... even when im sick i stay away from it.
Personaly... i think it should all be made legal... but allow employers to continue to discriminate against drug users. Then all the coke heads and what nots will kill them selves off and the problem should just fade away.
But it wouldent work that easy so whatever.

I imagine you would show some more compassion if it was someone from your family? Or it applies to all?

I've been trying to ignore this BUT there are many reasons why people get involved with drugs, alcohol, cigs, over-eating, etc (all bad habits of a sort) and for most, it doesn't just start by a simple bad choice one day. As for drugs like pot, most start when a teenager and it's usually peer pressure that leads one to taking their first hit, you're at a party with people that you like or think are cool and if you have the balls to say no, everyone laughs at you and calls you names. It's not that you were just sitting there one day and decided to become a drug addict, alcoholic, etc. It usually starts as something seemingly innocent and as time and circumstances change, people get sucked into it before they ever realize that it's a problem.
One shouldn't make generalizations w/o all the facts.
As for making anything else legal, do we need more stoned people driving, in work places, etc? That's what would happen and things would only get worse.

"Been there, Done that"...............Stay away from all sorts of mind altering substances. Didnt get strung out but cant say I never tried them either. As for Meth, it is rampant around here (central TX) and not uncommon to see people at the local gas station "geeked" out slinging that sh.t. Ive done them all and can honestly say that the only high anyone shoud enjoy is being sober. My brother in law's blood type has to be "hydro" as much weed as he smokes and every time I see him he is sitting around playin vid games laughing his a.. off. Before he became a pot head, he was considered one of the smartest guys I know, now the dumbest.

Pot normally does not make smart guys dumb, but rather lazy. I should know because I smoked it for 10 years before I quit at the age of 28. Several of my good frieds that I've known throughout High School, are smart guys and they are still smart to this day. It has a lot to do with your chemical makeup.Originally posted by Key Keeper

For me, I never thought it made me dumb or even lazy, but made me eat more.

One thing I do know - they should sell only weed at football games instead of beer.
