actually I tried all the tricks and stuff suggested... drive is dead and I am scheduling an RMA ASAP
what I DID have to end up doing was running the lovely little program called GetDataBack on the original drive which resulted in me getting 1330 JPG picture files back! JUST what I needed to do all the other files were of no use to me, but DAMN that is one HELLUVA prog... can't believe how well it worked!!
if you EVER need to get anything off a harddrive that's been formatted and windows reinstalled on it.. then use GetDataBack !!!
