I have an IBM Deskstar 60GXP 40 gig that I purchased in September of 2001. I've had no problem with the drive yet, but I do have a hard drive cooler on it. Using that Dtemp utility that I mentioned in another thread, it runs anywhere from 28 to 31°C.

I know the IBM 75GXP's have had problems, but I never heard of the 60GXP's hving problems. Is this true?

Yes they do. But the failure rate of the 60GXPs isn't as high as the 75GXP's.

Well, my 60GXP has been running stong since September 2001 also. So, I am not worried. (I also have an 80mm fan blowing on it).

However, we have an old 14GXP in our 4-5 year old Dell. That harddrive has not even close to died since we bought this computer. It is still running stong. Of course, it isn't even CLOSE to fat, but it runs 24/7..

This seems stupid, why, when we have such awesome technology, are we limited the amount of tiem we can run our HDD a day. I hope IBM finds a way to fix this, because they seem reliable to me..
